A Hike in the Park

Sara was hiking in Turkey Run Park by the Potomac River in Virginia Friday about 11:50 am CST on 5-2-08 when her eight year old Jack Russell Terrier “Jack” entered a cave in the rocks and started baying.  While she was trying to get him out a fox bolted from behind the rocks.  Jack kept baying out of sight in the huge rock den.  Sara waited for a while then decided to return home, about a mile away.

When she arrived home she looked up the TRAPPED website for volunteers near her that could offer suggestions.  After several phone calls and messages left Sara called me.  We discussed options on getting Jack out and concluded he was probably working a fox, that she should return where he entered with a flash light, water and a piece of her clothing and call me back.  I would be calling other volunteers in her area.

When Sara arrived back at the entry sight she found Jack wandering around looking for her with definite evidence of working his fox.  She gave him water, called me and started back home to take him to the vet.  Later that day Sara called, Jack was still at the vets but he would be coming home to recover.  Sara sent pictures of Jack on the rocks and Jack after the fox.  She said “thanks to TRAPPED for being there when she needed information on a dog gone to ground”.
